SYNOPSIS
UNDREAM is an experimental film set in the Interzone, the mental and literary territory imagined by William S. Burroughs—a suspended space between reality, memory, hallucination, and dream.
Here, Dr. Kelly awakens with no memory of who he is. In a future where memories and dreams are considered diseases to be eradicated, he is subjected to a program of “mental purification” that promises to free him from suffering by erasing his past. But as fragments of memory resurface in the form of visions, encounters, and nightmares, Kelly realizes that what has been taken from him is not merely the recollection of a life, but his very identity.
Through a visual language built upon the physical manipulation of film stock, the reuse of pre-existing imagery, and the creation of new characters generated through artificial intelligence, later transferred onto film and altered by hand, UNDREAM explores the boundaries between memory and simulation, archive and creation, control and freedom.
Enriched by the presence of William S. Burroughs’ original voice, the film becomes a journey into the contemporary mind, where language is a tool of control, dreams are the last space of resistance, and memory is the final possible form of identity.
UNDREAM tells the story of a man who refuses to be cured of his pain, because he knows that without memory there can be no freedom.
