London, 1967. In an England undergoing a profound transformation, the nationalist and populist Renewal Party wins the general election, promising order, discipline, and “emotional purity.” From this new political vision emerges MindSafe, a government program designed to measure, classify, and correct every feeling deemed dangerous to society.
Camilla Gray, a young psychiatric nurse burdened by an uncontrollable sensitivity, is quickly labeled as emotionally irregular and summoned for a special treatment. Alongside four other candidates—each guilty of feeling too much, too intensely, or in the wrong way—she is transferred to Blackwood Manor, an elegant Georgian estate converted into a laboratory for emotional re-education.
As the treatment progresses, Camilla’s grip on reality begins to unravel. She sees threats where none exist, mistakes affection for manipulation, and becomes trapped in a growing spiral of paranoia. Her anxiety deepens until it evolves into full-blown madness.
Blackwood Manor becomes both the stage for her psychological collapse and the centerpiece of the regime’s most cynical experiment.
But when the truth finally comes to light, it is already too late. Camilla was never the unstable one.
The world around her had been carefully constructed to drive her insane.
